About the SCWA
The Sonoma County Woodworkers Association is a 30 year old, non-profit association of over 100 professional and amateur woodworkers. Through the presentation of lectures, seminars, discussions, workshops and field trips we hope to promote the education of the principles of woodworking.
Our monthly meetings, typically at 7:00 PM on the first Tuesday of the month, at members' shops or a local conference room, encourage an open exchange of information about wood and woodworking methods and provide an opportunity to share experiences, ideas, techniques and the mutual enjoyment for creating with wood. We usually have a formal presentation or demonstration by a distinguished professional, and occasionally an SCWA Guild member, at each monthly meeting. Guild members are members of the SCWA who have shown a consistent high level of craftsmanship/artistry/work, are actively involved with the SCWA and have a willingness to share knowledge and skill with others, especially beginners on their various projects. Visitors are welcome to attend the monthly meetings of the SCWA to learn about us first hand.
We produce a monthly newsletter, the Wood Forum, keeping our readers abreast of recent and future meetings and current events.
Each year we sponsor the Artistry in Wood show at the Sonoma County museum. This juried exhibition of fine woodworking has gained a significant reputation for its exhibit of high level work.
We also support woodworking programs at the local high schools by supplying supplies and having SCWA members on the faculty, both paid and volunteer, and we maintain a DVD library of various aspects of woodworking that are exclusively available to SCWA members. In addition, current and past newsletters are also available in our on-line archive. With our new website there is also an opportunity to participate in woodworking discussion forums among our membership.
